5 Ways to Top a Steak (Photo Gallery)

For all the steak purists out there, salt and pepper is your best friend. However, here at BBQ Island we like to get a little creative from time to time. Slap on a bit of compound butter or bleu cheese crumbles and you’re in for a flavorful meal. Enjoy a few of our favorite mouthwatering steak ideas below.

1). Garlic Herb Butter

Ahh… the classic steak topper. It’s warm, buttery goodness tops our list at number one when it comes to enhancing the flavor of grilled meats. Garlic herb butter can be purchased at your local grocery store, or can be made at home by combining butter with minced garlic cloves, fresh ground black pepper, parsley, oregano and basil.

2). Bourbon and Mushroom Sauce

Slather some mushrooms and bourbon sauce on a ribeye steak, and you’ve got a winning combination. We like to pair our mushroom steak with potatoes and a side of veggies. Check out one of our favorite recipes here.

3). Avocado Chimichurri

Switch out your usual skirt steak marinade for this chimichurri and avocado recipe. It’s easy to make and adds a little color contrast to your meat. Just whip up the sauce with olive oil and vinegar, and smash a few fresh avocados to attain this South American inspired dish.

4). Bleu Cheese

Bleu cheese can add that sharp flavor you’ve been searching for to satisfy your taste buds. The combination of the beef with the pungent saltiness of blue cheese is likely to please anyone who takes a stab at it. It’s no wonder bleu cheese is one of the most popular steak toppers!

5). Salsa

Although slathering salsa on a steak may sound a little odd, we promise you it’s surprisingly delicious. The tomatoes and onions add the right amount of tartness and acidity to any grilled meat, no matter how rare or well it’s cooked. Sprinkle some salt and cracked pepper on top to complete the dish.

Don’t just take our word for it; try our suggestions for yourself and be the judge. Make sure you’re well-equipped before your next grilling sesh. Visit one of our locations near you, where you can browse gas grills, charcoal, tools and more!
